The Genealogy and Local Studies Group of The Library Association presents a seminar: Landed Estates: Records and Research on Thursday 22nd May 2008 in The National Library of Ireland. For further information click here

The Annual General meeting of the Group took place in the National Archives of Ireland on Thursday 6th December 2007.

No nominations were received for addition to the committee or for any of the officer posts. It was agreed to hold officer elections at the first committee of 2008. Nominations are being invited form the members.

Genealogy and the state of genealogical services in Ireland was raised and the committee is to examine ways in which the Group can be an agent for the improvement of resources and services.

The AGM was followed by a talk given by Caitriona Crowe, Archivist from the National Archives on the subject of the National Archives’ 1901 and 1911 Census Digitisation Project. The talk was most interesting and informative and was followed by a fruitful question and answer session. The talk was most opportune as the Dublin portion of the 1911 Census had been launched earlier in the week.

After lunch the Group was treated to a behind the scenes look at the National Archives by Frances McGee, Archivist.
