Vacancy for Director of Library Services at University College Cork

Applications are invited for the post of Director of Library Services at University College Cork. The Director of Library Services holds responsibility for leadership and management of UCC’s Library services provided to a community of approximately 25,000 users across a highly developed Library infrastructure. Operating within the wider Information Services unit, and reporting to the Director of Information Services, the Director of Library Services is part of a senior leadership team that guides the strategies, resource allocation, decisions, and direction of Information Services as a whole.

As the functional Head of the Library, the Director will take strategic responsibility for the department and will work closely with the Deputy Librarian on a range of strategic and developmental areas, and with the Sub-Librarians to ensure effective operations, good management, and excellent service to the community.  The Director will also be responsible for ensuring that the strategic direction of the department supports the overall strategic direction for Information Services as a division.  UCC Library manages rich digital and documentary collections, including important special collections, centred in award-winning facilities.  For further information see: http://booleweb.ucc.ie

The Marine Institute, located in Oranmore, Co. Galway, is inviting third-level students to apply for a work experience placement in the Institute’s Oceanus Library.  The successful candidate will receive a bursary worth €2,200 for an 8-week placement.  The Bursary Programme is aimed at undergraduates of Universities, Institutes of Technology and National Institutes for Higher Education.  The Scheme is strictly limited to undergraduates who have completed two years study in a relevant discipline.  The Application Deadline is 10th February 2012.

Under the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Library Association of Ireland, personal membership is open to persons employed in the profession of librarianship (including library assistants) while personal membership is open to those with an interest in the work, progress and welfare of libraries but who are not employed in the profession. Libraries and other corporate bodies may join as Institutional Members.
