We are delighted to invite you to attend the national conference Writing Ireland: interpreting Ireland through writers, historians and local collections which is being held on the 6th of December 2016. This one-day conference will take place in the Main Conference Centre, Dublin Castle from 10.30am, to 4.30pm.
The conference will explore cultural memory and the importance of the local record and will showcase the local studies’ collections of the public libraries, particularly the commemorative programmes of Ireland 1916. It will bring together local and national historians, librarians and archivists, local authority management, government departments, educators and local history experts.
Speakers include Mr. Damien English T.D., Minister of State, Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government; Dr. John Bowman, Irish historian and broadcaster; Professor Raymond Gillespie, National University of Ireland, Maynooth; Dr. Rosie Lavin, Assistant Professor of Irish Studies, Trinity College Dublin; Mr. Gearoid O'Brien, Westmeath County Council; Professor Eunan O'Halpin, Trinity College Dublin.
