Professional Standards



Welcome to the homepage of the Professional Standards Committee.  This Committee is charged with accrediting the courses offered by Universities and Colleges in Ireland that offer Information and Library Studies courses and approving applications for Associateship and Fellowship of the LAI.  We provide guidance on a range of educational topics relating to the profession of librarianship and aim to be a port of call for practitioners looking for information on competencies, ethics, regulation and standards applying to the workplace etc. For more information, please see the Terms of Reference: Education Committee/Professional Standards

At the request of the Council and following on from the Report of the Task Force on Employment Support, the Professional Standards Committee were charged with the preparation of documentation to assist interns and volunteers wishing to gain experience in the information environment:

7.0 The Committee will articulate requirements for training of volunteers and interns,   guidelines for review of their training and experience and provide a check-list of expected training outcomes for interns and volunteers.

The two documents accessible here were compiled for the guidance of both employers and potential interns.  Please bear in mind, that the documents are not exhaustive.
