Books are for Life: chapter 2 – the Public Libraries’ Section conference 2012

The Public Libraries’ Section is pleased to announce that the 2012 conference will take place at the Seafield Hotel, Gorey, County Wexford, from 7th to 9th November.

We have a great line-up in store for Books are for Life: chapter 2, and speakers confirmed so far include:

  • Kathy Roddy, a librarian and freelance trainer and consultant with CILIP, will speak on fundraising for libraries.
  • Dr Patricia Canning, who works with the Reader Organisation in Northern Ireland, will talk about how Get Into Reading groups meet a vast range of individual needs, such as improving well-being, building confidence and a sense of community.
  • Isolde Roche, who works in Digital Marketing and Social Media at Pan Macmillan, will be one of the speakers on a panel discussing ebooks.
  • Damien Brady, Liam Ronayne and Helen Walsh will be among the speakers on a County/City Librarians’ Panel.

We’ll be confirming more speakers over the next few weeks.

Delegates will also have an opportunity to visit Gorey Library, which was opened in April 2011, and we’ll have a packed trade exhibition, giving delegates a chance to catch up on the latest products.

We’re pleased to say that we have managed to reduce the price this year to €290, all-inclusive, for those taking advantage of the Early Bird offer – book your place with Melanie Cunningham (mcunningham@waterfordcity.ie) before the end of September to take advantage of this special offer. (The standard price is €320.)

Last year’s conference in Galway was a great success and we look forward to seeing as many colleagues as possible at this year’s event.
