The Public Libraries Conference runs from the 11th - 13th November in the Garryvoe Hotel, Ballycotton, County Cork. The theme this year is ‘Enlighten, Enrich, Engage: Learning, Culture and Community in Public Libraries’
The theme ties in with many of the issues raised in ‘Opportunities for all’ and includes a panel of speakers on library and arts funding, a literary awards panel which includes speakers from the IMPAC award, The Bord Gais Book Awards and the Greenaway Award.
Other speakers include a representative from the Europeana Library speaking about the work of the library and the online cultural archive. There will also be talks in the refurbished Cobh Library which includes an update on the Offaly Open Libraries initiative. The winner of the Public Libraries Section Project Prize will also be announced. The Conference concludes with the popular ‘My Life in Books Panel’ where authors discuss their favourite works.
