Digital resources in the Dublin and Irish Local Studies Collection

These major digital collections include the following:

Birth of the Republic Collection: This collection is made up of Irish political ephemera and covers the period 1864 – 1942.

Fáilte Ireland Collection:
This collection contains photographs of places and people from all over Ireland, in particular well-known tourist sites. The photographs in this collection were created by the Irish Tourist authority, and donated to Dublin City Library and Archive. It includes material dating from as far back as the 1930s to almost up to the present day.

New! Naxos Online Music Library

What type of music do you like... classical, folk jazz, world? At the click of a mouse, you can now listen to your favourite pieces on demand or find out about your favourite composer. Naxos Online Music Library will allow you to do just that.
If interested in accessing this service, you should call in person to the Music Library where you will be given a user name and password, and you can then access the service remotely online or in the library.

The Music Library is located in the Central Library and offers an expansive resource for music students and music lovers alike.

E-learning in the Open Learning Centre

Want to learn a new language or just brush up on your school French? Or would you like to improve your computer skills or acquire new ones? If so, we at the Open Learning Centre can help you. We're located in the Central Library in the ILAC Centre, Dublin 1 and provide free self-learning courses in both language and computer skills.

You can learn 112 languages here on CD-ROM format including Arabic, Cornish, Irish, Esperanto, Greek, Lithuanian and Zulu!

E-resources in the Business Information Centre

The Business Information Centre is located in the Central Library, ILAC Shopping Centre, Dublin 1. It is a Dublin City Public Library quality support for enterprise, employment led government initiatives and reference services. It is a one stop service specialising in business research, consumers’ economic activities, market profiling and career information. An experienced team has built up a reputation of providing quality tailored solutions to users needs.

Writing Ireland - National Conference on Interpreting Ireland through Writers, Historians and Local Collections

We are delighted to invite you to attend the national conference Writing Ireland: interpreting Ireland through writers, historians and local collections which is being held on the 6th of December 2016. This one-day conference will take place in the Main Conference Centre, Dublin Castle from 10.30am, to 4.30pm.
 

Public Lecture: The National Library and the Value of Libraries

As Chief Librarian at the British Library, Caroline leads on strategic development and management of the Library’s collections and services to ensure they remain world class, relevant and accessible to all the Library’s audiences.

She is currently working on questions about the value of national libraries, and the development of both physical and digital services to increase value. She is deeply engaged with the new skills, standards and infrastructure we need, both as separate institutions and as an integrated information community to make this transformation.

A&SL presents The Safe House: A Decline of Ideas - Irish Premiere Screening

The screening takes place on Saturday 3 December, 3-5pm,
UCD Cinema, University College Dublin

There will be a Q&A session after the screening with the
filmmakers themselves, so come prepared with questions and
hopefully we'll get a good discussion going!
