The Library Association of Ireland (LAI) is the professional body representing libraries and librarians in Ireland. One of its main objectives is to promote and develop high standards of librarianship and of library and information services.
The Association has two Education Committees: Professional Standards and Continuing Professional Development.
Please contact us at cpd@libraryassociation.ie.
The Professional Standards Committee is responsible for the various forms of accreditation offered by the Association (such as Associateship and Fellowship and recognition of third level programmes), liaises with Irish and international bodies responsible for the award of qualifications and articulates the core competencies of librarians and information professionals.
The Continuing Professional Development Committee is responsible for promoting and managing certification of LAI recognised courses, raising awareness of the value of LAI accreditation through liaison with groups and sections and other bodies involved in CPD, encouraging the maintenance of a calendar of CPD events and supporting research into the CPD needs of librarians and information professionals.
The Committee will be responsible for addressing developments and challenges in the CPD area.
The Committee will manage certification of LAI CPD events and liaise with groups and sections over their provision.
The Committee will support the annual joint conference and other seminars and conferences of groups and sections.
The Committee will support research into CPD needs.
The Committee will encourage the maintenance of a calendar of LAI CPD events via the website and will add to that the details of certificated non-LAI courses.
The Committee will liaise with other bodies engaged in training and CPD.
The Committee will work closely with the Professional Standards Committee
The Committee will meet at least 4 times per year.
