The Library Association of Ireland Genealogy and Local Studies Group is delighted to present this online talk with Tyler Sterkel of Ancestry Classroom.
Understanding the past is a powerful tool for building resilience, connection and understanding for all ages. What better way to inspire the next generation of genealogists and local historians, than to provide free access to Ancestry in classrooms up and down the country?
As part of their corporate responsibilities, Ancestry have a long-term commitment to empower the next generation of history makers by providing teachers and students with free access to historical documents on their websites, under their initiative called AncestryClassroom. Our goal is to reach 10 million students by 2025.
They are excited to launch AncestryClassroom in Ireland in Quarter 2 of 2023 enabling every school in Ireland to sign up to free Ancestry access via simple IP authentication.
This talk will explore three techniques to use AncestryClassroom to encourage and support young people in their pursuit of genealogy and local history research. Teachers and librarians will understand that having students research their family history can create a powerful, personal, and empathetic connection between students and historical subject matter.
